Martins Dukurs wins season's 1st skeleton World Cup race

ALTENBERG, Germany (AP) Three-time world champion Martins Dukurs of Latvia recovered from third place after his first run to win the first skeleton World Cup event of the season on Saturday.

The defending World Cup champion trailed Alexander Tretiakov and Nikita Tregybov of Russia after his run of 56.47 seconds, but clinched victory by 0.03 seconds with a second run of 56.43 for a combined time of 1:52.90.

Olympic champion Tretiakov's runs of 56.24 - a track record - and 56.69 gave him a combined time of 1:52.93 for second place, while Tregybov was third with 56.36 and 56.88 for 1:53.24.

Axel Jungk of Germany was fourth with a combined time of 1:53.30 and Dukurs' older brother Tomass was fifth in 1:53.53.
