Head coach of Hungary's swimming teams resigns amid dispute

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) The head coach of Hungary's swimming teams has resigned amid a disagreement between the national federation and top swimmer Katinka Hosszu, state news wire MTI reported on Thursday.

Laszlo Kiss, who has led Hungary's male and female swimmers since 1999, told MTI that the tipping point came after Hosszu refused to talk to him after her news conference denouncing the federation for its lack of updated technical support and no long-term strategy on Wednesday.

Federation president Tamas Gyarfas told MTI he hoped to convince Kiss to return and to also smooth things out with Hosszu.

Kiss has achieved legendary status in Hungary thanks to his work coaching Olympic champions Krisztina Egerszegi and Attila Czene, as well as five-times Olympic medalist Laszlo Cseh.
