Ski jumper Sara Takanashi wins 9th straight World Cup event

HINZENBACH, Austria (AP) Japanese ski jumper Sara Takanashi extended her winning streak in the women's World Cup to nine events on Saturday.

Takanashi opened with a 93.5-meter jump and added a 93.0-meter effort in the final round to score 257.2 points for a comfortable victory.

Defending overall World Cup champion Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria gathered 238.9 points and finished second, edging Maren Lundby of Norway by 0.4 points.

Olympic champion Carina Vogt of Germany scored 230.5 points and placed fifth.

Takanashi has won 10 of 11 events this season, and has 40th career World Cup victories from 67 starts. She also went further ahead in the overall standings, leading Irascho-Stolz by 1,080-729 points.

Another competition on the same hill is scheduled for Sunday.
