Norway wins Nordic combined World Cup after Germany stumbles

SCHONACH, Germany (AP) Joergen Graabak took advantage of Fabian Riessle's crash in the final meters to clinch victory for Norway over Germany in a Nordic combined World Cup team event on Friday.

The German team of Manuel Faisst, Eric Frenzel, Johannes Rydzek and Riessle won the ski jump competition and enjoyed a 24-second advantage over Norway for the 4x5-kilometer cross country race.

But Magnus H. Moan, Jan Schmid, Magnus Krog and Graabak clawed back the deficit before Riessle's untimely stumble saw the Norwegians win by 7.9 seconds.

The Austrian team of Bernhard Gruber, Bernhard Flaschberger, Lukas Klapfer and Philipp Orter was third, 22.2 seconds behind, ahead of Japan and France.

Individual events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
