Boston Marathon this month loses 2011 winner Geoffrey Mutai

BOSTON (AP) This month's Boston Marathon will be run without one of its recent men's champions.

Race organizers said Tuesday that 2011 winner Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya has dropped out because he has not met his training goals. The 34-year-old runner won five years ago in a course-record 2 hours, 3 minutes, 2 seconds.

Two others are skipping the April 18 race because of knee injuries - Morocco's Abdelmajid El Hissouf among the men, Kenya's Purity Cherotich Rionoripo among the women.

Ethiopia's Amane Beriso has been added to the women's field. She ran finished the Dubai Marathon in January in 2:20:48, the fifth-fastest debut ever.
