BOSTON (AP) The day started with a photo finish in the men's wheelchair race after the leaders crossed the line three abreast like Chevys at Talladega.

It ended with Lemi Berhanu Hayle skipping into history after fellow Ethiopian Atsede Baysa ran herself back into contention for the country's first-ever sweep.

Among the field of more than 27,000 runners in the 120th Boston Marathon on Monday were two survivors of the 2013 finish line bombings who lost their legs in the attacks. Others ran for charity, for a personal best time or just to prove to themselves that they could do it.

Hayle outraced defending champion Lelisa Desisa to win the men's title in 2 hours, 12 minutes, 45 seconds. Baysa came from 37 seconds back with 5 miles to go to win in 2:29:19.

Marcel Hug of Switzerland won his second straight wheelchair race in a three-man sprint to the finish. Ten-time champion Ernst Van Dyk was second by 1 second; he held off third-place finisher Kurt Fearnley of Australia by the width of a tire.
