Cragg, Flanagan, Meb to run Rock 'n' Roll half marathon

SAN DIEGO (AP) U.S. Olympians Amy Cragg, Shalane Flanagan and Meb Keflezighi will run in the half marathon at the Suja Rock `n' Roll San Diego Marathon on Sunday.

Cragg and Flanagan will run the 13.1 miles as their only event prior to the Olympics in August. Keflezighi will pace the 90-minute group in the half marathon, starting in a special ''Meb Corral'' after the elite runners.

Cragg won the women's Olympic trials. She says Sunday's half marathon ''is really just to boost our fitness.''

Flanagan, a four-time Olympian, says her only strategy is, ''I would just love to go and run hard.''

Keflezighi qualified for his fourth Olympics. He won the silver medal in 2004 and finished fourth in 2012. He also won the Boston Marathon in 2014.

He enjoys running in his hometown race.

''It's fun to showcase the people here, the community,'' he said. ''The economic growth is amazing, and we want people to keep coming back. 33,000 runners is a lot.''

Keflezighi turned 41 last month. His goal is to medal in Rio.

''I always say the marathon is an old man's sport, and I'm proving that,'' he said. ''I went through the process of 5K, 10K, and half marathons; I do the small things that make a big difference - training, stretching, icing, nutrition, recovering.''
