AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Mario Sategna, the University of Texas track coach who has tutored Olympians and led the Longhorns to the 2015 Big 12 championship, is taking an indefinite leave of absence.

A university spokesman said Monday that Sategna requested the leave but declined to give further details. Assistants Tonja Buford-Bailey and Ty Sevin were named interim co-head coaches in Sategna's absence.

Sategna has led the Texas program since 2013. Texas won the men's and women's Big 12 titles in 2015. He was an assistant throwing coach with the U.S. track team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro where former Longhorns Ryan Crouser and Michelle Carter both won gold in the shot put.

Sategna did not immediately respond to an email message seeking comment.
