Jury reviews assistant's testimony in sport institute trial

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) The jury deliberating in the embezzlement trial of the founder of a Rhode Island-based sport institute has asked to review some testimony.

Institute for International Sport founder Dan Doyle has pleaded not guilty to 18 counts.

The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2fX4C9z ) jurors on Thursday heard parts of the testimony of Laurie DeRuosi, Doyle's former assistant.

DeRuosi testified that when she prepared the institute's annual reports, Doyle directed her to use the signature of board president Russell Hogg (hohg). She said in 2009, Doyle signed the name of board president Alan Hassenfeld.

On cross-examination she acknowledged that in her grand jury testimony she said she couldn't remember if Doyle saw the reports before they were mailed.

Deliberations began Monday and are due to continue Friday.

Doyle lives in West Hartford, Connecticut.
