Larry Beck, 17-year-old precise and poised swinger from Kinston, N.C., took putting lesson from dad over telephone, went out next day to crush Dave Leon of Tucson, 6 and 5 in final, won USGA Junior Amateur golf championship (for boys under 18) at Washington.

Judy Frank, attractive 22-year-old Barnard College graduate who works for New York publishing firm, took Tri-County golf championship at Crestwood, N.Y., adding title to New York State and Metropolitan amateur crowns, marked herself as Miss not to miss.

Danny Ziegfeld III, 13-year-old Baltimore speedboat racer, was named to Marine Hall of Fame after scoring 7,500 points in races last year. Out of 32 starts Danny won 22. Being country's leading scorer gave him right to paint 1-US on his JU runabout.

Marilynn Smith of Wichita, pretty personality girl of women golf pros, teamed with traveling roommate Fay Crocker of Uruguay to fire final round 66, overcome five-stroke deficit and win the Homestead four-ball tournament, $1,500 purse, at Hot Springs, Va.
