Charge of the Stick Brigade

May 11, 1958

Lacrosse, fast spreading through the East and Midwest as a spring activity to balance athletic schedules, approaches its climax with a key match next Saturday between Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland, two leading powers. In the game shown above, Hopkins, undefeated last season, stopped a 31-game Maryland winning streak. Hopkins' Carl Muly (77) and John McNealey (76) start to clear the ball after Maryland shot at the goal. Maryland's All-America Ernie Betz (68) and Dick Britt (80) will ride Muly after he catches the ball.
