Her crew dressed in ghostly white, the 66-foot cutter Nam Sang gropes toward the starting line at Brenton Reef, hound for Bermuda, 635 miles away. Somewhere near by, shrouded in the worst fog to hit the Rhode Island coast in a month, a record entry of 134 other yachts luffed and tacked around the lightship for nearly two hours waiting for the starter's gun, finally got off the mark without a collision.
