Mary Rose, Lubbock (Texas) H.S. sophomore who says she can't run sprints, concentrated on the other events in international track meet at Mexico City, won the 220-yard dash, 80-meter hurdles, high and broad jumps, ran on winning 440-yard relay team.

Dave Keon, Toronto Maple Leaf rookie center who scored 20 goals and had 25 assists last season, polled 155 of possible 180 points in winning Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL player "most proficient in first year of competition," was awarded $1,000.

Mary Mills, 21-year-old senior at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., won women's state amateur golf title for the eighth consecutive year, defeating Mrs. Hugh Barnett of Ocean Springs, Miss. 4 and 3 in a 36-hole final at Pass Christian Isles Golf Club.

John Sloan of Skokie, Ill. defeated Vic Hershkowitz of Brooklyn 21-10, 21-15 to take the national handball singles title at Denver, also teamed with Hershkowitz to take doubles title from Ruby and Oscar Obert of New York City 18-21, 21-6, 21-15.

Chris Taranto, 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior at Notre Dame H.S. in Biloxi, Miss., pitched his eighth no-hitter of regular season, struck out 12, walked one in 5-0 triumph over St. Martin H.S. of North Biloxi, Miss., finished season with perfect 9-0 record.

Vernon Cook, captain of Austin (Texas) polo team, sparked Austin to three goals in less than minute against San Antonio team (setting up two goals and scoring one himself), ended up game's leading scorer with five goals as he led Austin to 13-6 triumph.
