Even if she had not tangled her sulky's wheel with that of a rival, the European trotting champion Kracovie (No. 4) probably would not have won this race, but she might have pushed the remarkable horse that did win to a new world record. Barely defeated in the previous week's International, the French mare was doing fairly well in last week's Challenge Trot at Roosevelt Raceway until this moment. Then, rounding into the stretch, she sideswiped America's Silver Song (No. 1), whose driver is shown here eying his wheel in concern. The mishap delayed both horses enough to let the U.S. 4-year-old Merrie Duke win the race in his own good time. Just 3/5 second off the world mark of 2:33, it was good time indeed.
