Shelby Pickering
LEE, MAINE > Soccer

Shelby, a senior striker at Lee Academy, ended her high school career with a four-year total of 178 goals, setting a state record for boys or girls. She led the Pandas to the Class D finals and was the Maine girls' winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

Jamel Staten
MINNEAPOLIS > Basketball

Staten, a senior forward at Minnesota State, averaged 21.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in three Mavericks victories. His performance earned him North Central Conference player of the week honors for the third consecutive time this season.

Bobby McAlister
FEDERAL WAY, WASH. > Soccer

McAlister, a junior forward at Seattle, led the Redhawks to the NCAA Division II national championship, scoring the winning goals in both victories in the final four. In all he scored 22 goals this season, including 11 game-winners, as his No. 1-ranked team went 22-0-1.

Paula Infante
SANTIAGO, CHILE > Field Hockey

Infante, a sophomore midfielder at Maryland, broke the single-game NCAA Division I tournament record, scoring all her team's goals in a 5-2 first-round win over Delaware. She led the Terrapins in goals for the season (14) and is a two-time first-team All-America honoree.

Karsten Sween
RIDGECREST, CALIF. > Football

Karsten, a senior quarterback at Burroughs High, completed 264 passes for 4,345 yards (averaging 334 yards per game) and 46 touchdowns for the season. The Burroughs Burros finished at 8--5. He ended his high school career with 8,107 passing yards in 27 games.

Sarah and Michael Holcomb
VIAN, OKLA. > Cross-country

Sarah and Michael, a freshman and a senior, respectively, at Sequoyah High, became the state's first sister and brother to win regional high school championship titles.
