Mrs. Elsie Bracken, 39, has caught 224 tarpon off Boca Grande, Fla. this year, releasing all but six, which she retained as tournament entries. Mrs. Bracken, who weighs just 90 pounds and stands 5 feet tall, landed one tarpon that weighed 146 pounds.

Barbara Holien, 18, of Granite Falls, Minn., compiled an average of 178 pins per game to take the women's division of the All-America Youth Bowling championships in Washington. She has won the Minnesota women's singles title the last two years.

Carrie Fotopoulos of Prairie Village, Kans., the nation's 29th ranked 14-year-old, became the youngest winner of the Missouri Valley women's tennis title in 52 years. She defeated the 19-year-old first seed and a six time former champion in attaining her victory.

Rose Gilbert, 18, a graduate of Canyonville (Ore.) Bible Academy, figured in all 40 points her team scored to place second in the state Class A track meet. She holds state records in the 100-, 200-, 440- and 880-yard runs, the long jump and the pentathlon.

Darrell Pace, 15, of Reading, Ohio, broke 11 national records to win the intermediate boys' title at the National Target Archery championships. He did not enter the men's round but shot from the same distance and scored 17 points more than the men's champ.

Marita Redondo, 16, of National City, Calif., won the USLTA singles title for girls 16 and under, beating Chris Evert's sister Jeanne in Charleston, W. Va. She then successfully defended her U.S. Amateur Grass Court championship in Wilmington, Del.
