Michelle Baker, 14, of Peabody, Mass., out-scored a field of 504 competitors to capture the New England AAU gymnastics championship in the 13-14 age group. Besides the all-around title, she won golds in the balance beam and uneven parallel bars.

Jane Oas, a freshman at the University of Minnesota, captured three events in the State Intercollegiate women's track meet at Minneapolis, setting two meet records. She sprinted to a 24.7 clocking in the 220-yard dash, and long-jumped 16'4".

Howard Stein, a sophomore at the University of Rochester (N.Y.), pitched back-to-back four-hit shutouts in a doubleheader over Hobart College, fanning 11 and walking one. He finished the season with a 5-0 record and had an earned run average of 1.29.

Randy Cavanaugh, a senior at St. Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Fla., led his golf team to a 43-0-3 record since February 1971 in which the Scots outscored their area opponents 205 points to 41. The team captain, he has a 34-9-6 three-year dual match record.

Bill Jankunis, 17, a senior at New Dorp High in Staten Island, N.Y., captured the "triple crown" of Eastern schoolboy outdoor track, winning the high jump at the Queens-Iona, Penn and New York relays. Undefeated this season, his best height was 7'½".

Mike Shapiro, 38, tennis coach at State College (Pa.) High School, guided his team to its eighth Central Counties league championship and sixth undefeated season. Shapiro's career record is 118-24 and State College teams have won 83 straight matches.
