PORTLAND, ORE.
By running the Portland Marathon in 2:49:17, Davies, a commercial artist, broke the world age-62 record by 11:43. He now holds four age-group records, which include a 2:47:46 marathon, the fastest he ever ran, for the 55-60 category.

MERILYN CHAPMAN
DIABLO, CALIF.
Merilyn, 15, a sophomore at Monte Vista High in Danville, won the individual all-round gymnastics title at the British Invitational. She was the first American since 1970 to win an all-round while competing directly with U.S.S.R. gymnasts.

JON PRUITT
BERWICK, PA.
Jon, 18, concluded his football career at Berwick High with a state prep single-season record of 2,350 yards (on 341 carries). The 5'7", 160-pound tailback scored 244 points last season, which was four short of the state record.

SUE HOAGLAND
NORWICH, CONN.
A sophomore, Sue, 15, won the state Class L girls' cross-country title and finished third in the Open class to lead St. Bernard High to its fourth straight class and third straight Open championship. Last year Sue took both titles.

BARRY STRINGFELLOW
WILMINGTON, DEL.
A senior at Brandywine High, Barry, 17, ended his high school soccer career by shutting out Concord 3-0 for the state championship. In three years he had 31 shutouts in 44 games—13 last season—and allowed only 18 goals for a .41 average.

BETTY FIANDACA
MOORHEAD, MINN.
In leading the University of Idaho field-hockey team to an 18-2-2 record, the best in the school's history. Fiandaca, 20, a junior center forward, scored 36 of the Vandals' 68 goals, more than double the 17 scored by their opponents.
