Valerie, a 5'8" senior guard on the Boston Technical High girls' basketball team, led the city in scoring with an average of 23.8 points per game, including 56 against Boston Trade School. She plans to attend Florida A&M University.

David, a freshman at St. Olaf College of Northfield, Minn., won the slalom title at the National Collegiate Ski Association Championships in Marquette, Mich. He also finished second in the giant slalom, behind Steve Plausteiner of Boston College. A week later David's older brother Bret, a 22-year-old freshman at Northern Michigan University, won the NCAA slalom championship at Stowe, Vt. The runner-up in that event was Jostein Masdal of the University of Utah.

MURPHYSBORO, ILL.

Busby, a 30-year-old physics teacher who also coaches cross-country and track at Oak Park High, won the St. Louis Olympiad Marathon in 8° weather with a time of 2:21:08. He had also won the same race in 1975. Johnson, a 24-year-old graduate student in exercise physiology at Southern Illinois University who was running in her first marathon, led the field of 200 women with a clocking of 3:07:47. Her husband is Jan Johnson, a 1972 Olympic bronze medalist in the pole vault.

MOSES LAKE, WASH.
Jamie, a 5'4" senior wrestler at Moses Lake High, completed his third year of varsity competition with a 98-0-1 record and state titles at 101, 108 and 115 pounds. He also led the Chiefs to class AAA state championships in 1979 and '80.
