Vaughn, a 6'3", 235-pound senior wrestler for Xenia High, had a 34-0 (30 pins) record and won the Ohio state heavyweight title. Also a fullback, he ran for 802 yards last season for Xenia and will attend Ohio State on a football grant.

Eppley, 60, won five events in the women's 60-64 division of the national AAU masters short-course swimming championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She set U.S. age-group records in the 1,650-yard freestyle, the 50 and 100 butterfly and the 100 and 200 individual medleys. Roper, 50, also won five events, setting a U.S. 50-54 age-group record in each. She won the 500 freestyle, the 50 and 100 butterfly and the 100 and 200 individual medleys.

Keith, 12, won his fourth Ohio state age-group boys' all-around gymnastics title, placing first in the pommel horse, vault and horizontal bar. He also finished second in the floor exercises, third on the parallel bars and fourth in the rings. Penny, a sophomore at Belmont High who four years ago suffered a slipped disk and torn cartilage in her back that sidelined her for two seasons, won the girls' high school all-around title, with wins in balance beam, floor exercises and uneven parallel bars.
Sonja, a senior at Memphis High, beat Tracey Tatum 6-1, 6-0 to win her fourth Class A state girls' singles tennis title. A two-time all-league basketball player (scoring average; 15.0), she will attend Texas A&M on a tennis scholarship.
