Shane and Dave, both 17, set national high school records for consecutive hits and home runs, respectively. Over five games Shane, a shortstop at Gahr High, had 16 straight hits, including two triples and three homers, to erase the mark of nine in a row shared by three players. Dave, a catcher at Woodrow Wilson High, slammed five consecutive home runs during a doubleheader with Princeton High—four in the opener. He broke the record of four straight held by three players.

Detzel, 23, president of a fishing-rod manufacturing firm, set a women's live-bait world record by boating a 15-pound, 5-ounce largemouth bass at California's Lake Casitas. The previous women's best was 15 pounds, 2 ounces.

Cefornia, a junior at DeSoto High, and Deloise, a sophomore at Atlantic Community High, excelled in the girls' state AAA track meet in Winter Park, Fla. Cefornia, who has won the state 100-yard-dash title for three straight years, finished first in the 100 and 220 in state-record times of 10.8 and 24.4, respectively, as well as in the 440 (57.1). Deloise placed second in the 100 (11.0), 220 (25.1) and 440 (57.3) and won the long jump with a state high school record leap of 19'3¾".

WARWICK, R.I.
Phillips, 61, a real estate agent, shared two doubles titles and won the Grand Masters singles at the U.S. badminton nationals in San Jose, Calif. He had similar triples at this year's San Diego Senior International and the Canadian nationals.
