Bendel, 56, a model, hoisted 473¾ pounds to set his second American 55-59 age-group record in two months for the dead lift in the 165-pound class. The mark was established at a powerlifting competition in Warwick, N.Y.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.
Dianne, an eighth-grader at Howard T. Herber Middle School, set what is believed to be a national 13-14 age-group record in the standing long jump with a leap of 8'6" in Charleston, W. Va. The old mark, set in 1981, was 8'5½".

BARRINGTON, ILL.
Ken, a senior on the Barrington High hockey team, scored a hat trick in 49 seconds during a 17-2 win over Rockford-Guilford High. His goals came at 5:46, 5:21 and 4:57 of the first period. He leads the 35-2 Broncos with 48 goals and 59 assists.

BALTIMORE
Schmidt, 21, a printing-platemaker, rolled the first back-to-back 300 games ever at the local Brunswick Crown Lanes. A 198-average bowler, Schmidt rolled his perfectos while subbing for a friend in an open scratch doubles league.

STACEY CUNNINGHAM
YORK, PA.
Cunningham, a 5'6" junior guard at Shippensburg (Pa.) State, scored 19 field goals, an NCAA Division II women's record, in a 115-84 victory over California (Pa.) State. In 1982, she sank 21 free throws in a game, another Division II mark.

MITCH SHELTON
ST. LOUIS
Shelton, 22, a heavyweight wrestler at Oklahoma State, pinned Lou Banach, the 1981 NCAA champ, in a 27-23 win over No. 1 Iowa, which had not lost at home since 1977. Shelton is 24-2, and OSU, 19-0, is now ranked first.
