Erik, 14, set a national record of 46.99 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle for the 13-14 age group at the Carmel Swim Club invitational in Indianapolis. The previous record of 47.02 was set in 1983 by Craig Amnion of Fairfax, Va.

Whitney, a senior forward at Rolla High, scored 597 points this season and led the 22-3 Bulldogs to a fifth-place finish in the state basketball tournament. She is second on the state's all-time scoring list with 2,492 points.
George, 48, rolled 27 straight strikes and two perfect games for an 813 series—213, 300, 300—for Skipper and Crew, in the Kings and Queens League at the Montclair Bowlium. The perfect games were his first in 25 years of bowling.
DenHartog, a junior at Middlebury College, won the NCAA Division III cross-country title in Atlanta. She ran the 5,000-meter race in a course-record 18:05, 36 seconds ahead of Julia Kirtland of Macalester College.
Emmitt, a junior at Escambia High, rushed for 262 yards and three TDs in a 55-28 win over Auburndale in the Class AAAA semifinals. In three years he has run for 6,993 yards, making him the leading rusher in Florida high school history.
Daber, 26, set a record for one-club competition by shooting a one-over-par 73 to win the 1985 World One Club championship. Using a six-iron, he made 17 pars. The old record was 76, set by Terry Beardsley of Franklin, Wis., in 1982.
