Dawn, a senior at Neptune High, and Monifa, a Truman High junior, are the best 55-meter hurdlers among U.S. high school girls. At the Colgate Women's Games in Madison Square Garden, Dawn beat Monifa by .08 of a second; her 7.83 clocking was the fastest women's 55-meter time in the U.S. this year and the third-best scholastic clocking ever. Monifa holds the fourth-best time at 7.86. In their seven confrontations this season, Dawn has won four races and Monifa three.
DeRoche, a 6'4" senior basketball forward at Thomas College, set an NCAA Division III single-game record with 63 points in a 97-91 win over St. Joseph's of Maine. He also holds the Terriers' career scoring mark of 2,218 points.
APACHE JUNCTION, ARIZ.
Wayne, a senior at Apache Junction High, won a state high school wrestling crown for the fourth straight year by pinning Rafael Rivera of Desert View High in the Class AAA-2 132-pound title match. His four-year record was 118-0.
Tony, a 5'9" senior guard at East Central High, scored 60 points in a 95-75 win over San Marcos to break George Price's 20-year-old city scoring record for a season, with 1,020 points. He has a 34.7 average for the 34-0 Hornets.
Williams, a Naval Academy sophomore, repeated as Colonial Athletic Association swimming and diving Female Athlete of the Year. At the league meet, she won the 50-yard free, 100 and 200 backstroke and swam on two winning relay teams.
