Matt, a senior at Earl L. Vandermeulen High, bowled the first perfect game in Suffolk County high school competition while leading the Royals to an 8-3 victory over Ward Melville High. His three-game series total was a match-high 714.

Hilliary, a freshman at Pine Crest School, won the state 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke titles and anchored the winning 400 freestyle relay team as she led the Panthers to their second straight state Class 3A team title.
Siegel, 52, a trophy manufacturer, lifted a total of 1,389 pounds to win the 275-pound class in the 50-54 age group at the American Drug Free Powerlifting Association masters meet. He dead-lifted 568, bench-pressed 314 and squatted 507.
Stacy, 12, the junior world champion in baton twirling, was named the Junior Female Athlete of the Year by the Canadian Sports Federation. She is the first Canadian to win any kind of medal in international baton twirling.
Shane and Sean, fraternal twins who just turned 11, won four karate medals in the 10-and-under age group at the U.S. Karate Federation National Championship, in Orlando, Fla. Shane won silver medals in the forms and weapons events. Sean won the gold medal in forms and got a bronze in sparring. At the Grand Master Hayashi Tournament, in San Diego, they finished first in the team forms and team sparring competitions. They received their black belts in January 1989.
