A BIG YEAR FOR GOLF: ASTRONAUT ALAN SHEPARD HIT A GOLF ball on the
moon; Vice- President Spiro Agnew hit three spectators with two shots
on the links; Lee Trevino was named SI's Sportsman. The Orioles
brought four 20-game winners to the World Series -- the first fall
classic to feature night games -- but lost in seven to Pittsburgh.
The Venezuelan-bred Canonero II won the Kentucky Derby and the
Preakness, but the colt failed in his bid for the Triple Crown when
he finished fourth in the Belmont, won by Pass Catcher.
