of Maryland died of a cocaine overdose; eight days later, the Browns'
Don Rogers became another victim of the drug. Louisville, led by 6
ft. 9 in. freshman Pervis Ellison, beat Duke 72-69 for the NCAA
basketball title. Argentina, fired by 5 ft. 5 in. striker Diego
Maradona, won the World Cup over West Germany 3-2. In Game 6 of the
World Series, Bill Buckner of the Red Sox let a ball slip through his
legs, opening the door for the Mets to win in Game 7.
