BASEBALL WAS BIG NEWS IN '70: THE GAME HIT THE BEST-SELLER list
with Ball Four by former Yankee Jim Bouton, who was praised and
vilified for his revealing book; Detroit pitcher Denny McLain, who
two years earlier had been a 31-game winner, was suspended for
gambling; the Orioles beat the Reds in a five-game Series. Willis
Reed hobbled from the trainer's table to inspire the Knicks to a Game
7 win over the Lakers for the NBA title. In the Super Bowl, the
Chiefs beat the Vikings 23-7. Vince Lombardi died at the age of 57.
