victory in the Little League World Series; the Taiwanese have since

''Goodbye Allie! Goodbye Allie!'' -- finally worked: After a
preseason trouncing by the crosstown rival Jets, the Giants replaced
coach Allie Sherman. Texas was No. 1 in college football; UCLA won
the NCAA basketball title; Rod Laver won his second Grand Slam.
