A YEAR OF SHOCKING LOSSES. THE 46-YEAR-OLD PRESIDENT was killed in
Dallas, and former Syracuse halfback Ernie Davis, the 1961 Heisman
winner, died of leukemia at 23. Favored Cincinnati was upset in
overtime, 60-58, by Loyola of Chicago, which won its first and only
NCAA basketball title. But a number of stalwarts came through: Sonny
Liston knocked out Floyd Patterson for the second time; Jack Nicklaus
won the Masters and the PGA; the Celtics won another NBA title. P.S.:
Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn.
