Kangas, a University of Minnesota-Duluth senior, and McDonald, a senior at Chisholm High, set state (women's and men's) career basketball scoring records. Kangas's 30 points in a 78-57 win over Winona State made her the top college scorer. Her career total of 2,810 is 453 points more than the old mark. McDonald's 44 points in an 84-54 defeat of McGregor High made him the top high schooler. His career total of 3,292 is 163 more than the old mark.

Lynn Roethke
FOND DU LAC, WIS.
Roethke, 29, won the women's 134-pound title at the U.S. judo world championship trials by beating Brenda Day from Rockford, Ill., 1-0. Roethke is the only female judoka to qualify for five straight worlds.

Sudsy Monchik
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.
Sudsy, a junior at Tottenville High, won the U.S. National High School Racquetball singles crown by beating Allan Engel of Manatee High (Bradenton, Fla.) 15-14, 15-9. Sudsy has won singles titles in all junior divisions.

Donta Simpson
DANIA, FLA.
Donta, a 245-pound senior at South Broward High, won the state heavyweight wrestling championship by defeating Richard Nipper of Fort Myers High, 7-4. He finished the season with a 25-0 record.

Tammy Bryant
ARLINGTON, TEXAS
Tammy, 13, was first out of 348 competitors in her age group (11-13) in the Fort Worth Cowtown 10K with a time of 41:05. She beat Joline Budd of Fort Worth by 5:34, and she finished fifth overall in the field of 2,950 women.
