Sonny, 58, and his son David, 30, coached the Lake Oswego High boys' and girls' tennis teams to Class 4A state titles. In 20 years as boys' tennis coach, Sonny has a 286-20 record in dual meets and has won 15 league titles. He has also guided the Lake Oswego High boys' basketball team to a 427-190 mark over 26 seasons. David, who played both tennis and basketball for his father, has a 76-3 record in five years as the Lakers girls' tennis coach.

Kellei Arkell
STILLWATER, MINN.
Arkell, a recent graduate of Stillwater High, placed first in the solo, figures, duet (with Kathy Henderson) and team events as the Ponies beat St. Louis Park High for the state synchronized swimming team title.

Michelle Wiecezak
NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.
Wiecezak, a recent graduate of New Hyde Park Memorial High, and a shortstop for the Softball team, hit .535 and had a school record 45 stolen bases in leading the Gladiators to a 15-0 season.

Ted Knudsen
ELGIN, N.DAK.
Knudsen, a school superintendent, bowled two straight 300 games in a 9-pin no-tap tournament in Dickinson. Knudsen, who at one point had 28 strikes in a row, took second place in the event with partner Bob Bleick.

Amy Acuff
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
Amy, 15, won the high jump at the national scholastic track and field championships with a jump of 6'2". Her leap of 6'2¼" at the state meet was the best by a high school girl this season and the third-best ever.
