ST. JOSEPH, MO.
Barnett, 21, in his first world senior weightlifting event, won the silver in the 100-kilogram division at the Pan Am Games with a snatch and clean-and-jerk total of 345 kilograms. He also won a gold medal at the Olympic Festival.

AUBURN, MASS.
Marois, 28, an assistant field hockey coach at the University of New Hampshire, scored six goals at the Pan Am Games to lead the U.S. women's team in scoring. The U.S. team won the bronze medal.

Andy Piazza
OCEANSIDE, N.Y.
Piazza, 23, a goalie for the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club, led his team to a 9-8 win over Coors Light of Syracuse, N.Y., in the championship game of the Cape Cod Classic. He had 35 of 44 saves in the finals and semifinals.

Lauren Sheprow
COCONUT GROVE, FLA.
Sheprow, 31, a public relations executive, won the women's 25-and-over U.S. singles racquetball title, 14-15, 15-11, 11-5. Four weeks later, Sheprow and Robin McBride won the national outdoor doubles title.

Brian LaJeone
HAMPTON, ILL.
Brian, 8, a pitcher-catcher for the Yankees of the Silvis Youth minor league, batted .780 to lead his team to the league championship and a 16-1 record. In 48 innings, he struck out 139 and gave up five hits to go 10-0.

Alana Preston
PALM BEACH LAKES, FLA.
Preston, 18, won the discus event at the Palm Beach County track and field meet in Belle Glade with a toss of 160'11". Her previous best was 156'1", set two weeks earlier at the Florida Relays.
