Mary Beth Riley
Riley, a recent honors graduate of Canisius, was named NCAA Woman of the Year. She set school marks in the 800- (2:18.7) and 1,500-meter (4:50.2) runs, and helped set the 3,200-meter-relay record (9:57.7).
LAKE FOREST, ILL.
Maureen, a senior field hockey center-forward at Lake Forest High, scored 44 goals to break her own state single-season record and lead the Scouts to a 19-1 mark. She was named state Player of the Year and All-America.
Robert, a 205-pound senior running back at Worth County High, rushed for a state career-record 105 touchdowns, breaking the mark of 79 set by Herschel Walker in 1979. He also ran for 7,868 yards.
Billy Bob Evans
Evans, 57, the Leon High volleyball coach, guided the Cougars to their fifth state title and his 804th career win with a 15-10, 15-3 defeat of Brazos High. He is the national-record holder for victories among volleyball coaches.
Erin, a senior soccer midfielder for Mount Lebanon High, scored 304 career points to set a school mark while leading the Blue Devils to a three-year 57-5-4 record. She was a 1990 and 1991 All-America.
Heather, a senior Softball pitcher for Ramsey High, led the Rams to a 32-0 record and the state title. She got credit for all 32 of the victories and has a career mark of 75-6, with 468 strikeouts in 574 innings and a 0.53 ERA.
