Joslin, 80, a retired real estate salesman, set a 16-pound shot-put world best of 22'1¾" for the 80 age group, surpassing by 4¼" the previous mark, established in 1986 by Arnold Tismanis of Thornhill, Ont. Joslin broke two other records held by Tismanis in the 80 and 80-84 age divisions when he threw the 25-pound weight 25'11".
Saunders, 26, a microbiologist, won the 110-pound class at the Women's Wrestling World Championships when she defeated three-time world silver medalist Yoshiko Endo of Japan 7-3. She scored pins in her first two matches before beating two-time world champ Martine Poupon of France 3-0 in the semis.
Erin, 14, won the girls' 13-14 age-group omnium at the junior track cycling nationals by finishing first in the match sprint and 5-km points race and second in the 500-meter time trial. She set a U.S. girls' 200-meter age-group record of 13.251 seconds in the match sprint. Erin also earned two seconds and a third at the junior road nationals.

Frank, a senior running back, led Ben Eielson High, which has only 322 students, to its first state football championship by rushing for 152 yards and scoring two touchdowns, on 34- and 22-yard runs, in a 28-9 defeat of Soldotna High. During the season he rushed for 839 yards on 81 carries and had 16 TDs for the 9-0 Ravens.
Chapman, 21, won the U.S. Amateur Tenpin Bowling championship 216-207 over Vince Biondo of Hoffman Estates, Ill. At the International Youth Worlds he earned the individual title by beating Seo Kook of South Korea 414-380 in the two-game final and was a member of the U.S. title-winning four-man team.
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y.
Elizabeth, a senior field hockey goalie at Hoosick Falls Central, had 13 shutouts this season and raised her national high school record for career shutouts to 60. Her .24 goals-against average helped the defending Class C state champion Panthers to a 15-3 record this season. In 1991 she had 23 shutouts and a. 19 goals-against average.
