Kent, 40, and Carol Ann, 35, who are husband and wife, won a total of seven national titles at the Masters Track Cycling Championships. Kent, a groundwater hydrologist, won the 3,000-meter time trial in 3:26.01, a national record for the 40- to 45-year-old division. He also won the 4,000-meter team pursuit and the points race. Carol Ann, a sixth-grade teacher, won four events in the 35- to 39-year-old class, including the 3,000-meter time trial in 3:59.92, a national record. The next week they each won the 40K time trial at the Masters Road Championship. Two months ago, at the National Cycling Championships, which is an open event, Kent won the 4,000-meter individual pursuit by 10 seconds over Carl Sundquist, who is 10 years his junior.
Eric, a recent graduate of Salisbury High, beat Ryan Fleming of T.C. Roberson High 6-2, 6-1 to win his third straight North Carolina High School 3A singles crown. Saunders finished his schoolboy tennis career with a 115-3 record. Saunders's sister Susan, now 23, also won three high school state singles titles while at Salisbury.
Bridgett, a recent graduate of Pennsville High, led the Eagles to the Group 2 state high school Softball crown by striking out seven batters, walking none and driving in two runs in the title game, a 9-2 win over Jefferson Memorial High. She finished the season with a 22-0 record, 197 strikeouts, a .350 batting average and an ERA of 0.35.

Berry, a recent graduate of Culver Military Academy, had two rounds of 73 to win the Indiana State high school golf tournament by two strokes over Kevin Reed of Providence High. Last year as a junior at Clinton High, Berry, a southpaw who will attend Oklahoma City University in the fall, won the Oklahoma 3A championship by seven strokes.
Hyche, a senior-to-be at Indiana State, won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.14 and 22.34, respectively, at the NCAA outdoor track championships. Earlier this year she won the 55- and 200-meter dashes at the NCCA indoor championships. Hyche is one of only three athletes to win all four NCAA sprint titles in the same year.
