Varina Mayes
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.
Varina, 10, won the girls' age 8-10 blue-belt titles in forms and in sparring for the second consecutive year at the state taekwondo championships. Her coach and mother, Nam-Kung Myong Sok Mayes, was an assistant coach of the U.S. Olympic taekwondo team in 1988.

Eric Weikum
NAPERVILLE, ILL.
Eric, a 14-year-old trapshooter, won the Great Lakes Grand American Handicap Championship with a perfect score of 100x100 from 26 yards and became the first subjunior (under 15) in the history of the Amateur Trapshooting Association to hit 100 straight clay targets from that distance.

William Booth
HARTSELLE, ALA.
Booth, 49, who teaches calculus at Hartselle High, guided the Tigers' baseball team to a 13-0, 5-0 doubleheader sweep of Robertsdale High to win the 5A state championships. Since he took over as coach in 1988, Hartselle has won four of five state championships and amassed a record of 234-43.

Ruth Davidon
BALTIMORE
Davidon, 30, a medical student at Johns Hopkins, won four events at the U.S. Rowing Nationals: the women's 500- and 2,000-meter single sculls; the 2,000 double sculls, with Monica Michini of Philadelphia; and the quadruple sculls, with the Occoquan Sculling Center crew.

Natalie Gray
SAPULPA, OKLA.
Natalie, a recent graduate of Cascia Hall Prep, won the girls' 1,600 and 3,200 meters for a fourth time at the state track meet to bring her total of state titles in running events to 15. She also has four cross-country crowns, two championships in the 4x800 relay and one in the 800.

Birch Davidson
LANCASTER, PA.
Davidson, 75, won five golds, in the 50-yard butterfly, the 200 freestyle and the 100, 200 and 400 individual medleys, in the 75-80 age group at the national masters short course swim meet. His times in the 100 (1:16.23) and 400 IM (6:33.29) and the 50 fly (33.63) set U.S. age-group records.
