Jennifer and Margaret, identical twin seniors at Huntington High, led the Blue Devil girls' soccer team to a 16-0 record and the No. 1 ranking in the nation. Jennifer, a midfielder and four-year starter, had scored 11 goals and 16 assists through last Friday. She is a two-time all-league performer and a 1993 All-Suffolk County selection. Margaret, a forward and a member of the 1993 All-New York state team, had scored 29 goals and nine assists. She has scored 90 goals in her career, including 60 in the last two seasons. In Jennifer and Margaret's four years on the varsity, the Blue Devils have compiled a 52-7-3 mark through last Friday.
Nicholson, a boxer in the 132-pound class and a junior at Northern Michigan, was named the Michigan Male Amateur Athlete of the Year. He is the No. 1-ranked amateur in the nation in his weight division, and in 1993 he was named USA Boxing's Boxer of the Year.
Burton, a senior outside hitter for the Long Beach State women's volleyball team, had 24 kills and 23 digs as the 49ers beat Pacific 5-15, 15-2, 12-15, 15-2, 15-13. LBSU is currently ranked eighth in the nation. Through last Friday, Burton, a two-time All-America, had 1,184 kills and 822 digs in her career.
Mindy, a senior at Niwot High, won the girls' state 4A individual all-around gymnastics title for the second consecutive year while leading the Cougars to their second team championship. Mindy had a combined score of 37.2. She was state runner-up as both a freshman and a sophomore.
Ernest, a senior defensive end for 1993 5A state champion and current No. 1-ranked Southridge High, had, through last Friday, led the Spartans to four shutouts this season. He was Southridge's top tackler (34) and sack leader (five). He is also an all-state wrestler and an honor student with a 4.21 GPA.
