THE RATINGS GAME

Passing-efficiency ratings are complicated, and compounding the
complexity is the fact that the NCAA formula differs from that
of the NFL. Both weigh four factors--completion percentage,
yards per attempt, touchdown percentage and interception
percentage--with the NFL placing slightly more importance on the
last two numbers. Here's how the NCAA's top 10 quarterbacks
would rate using the pro system. (Through Sunday, San
Francisco's Steve Young was the NFL's highest-rated passer this
season, at 105.2).
