They Shoot, They Miss

After the league's scoring average dipped to 96.9 points last
season, the lowest since the advent of the shot clock in
1954-55, the rules committee made modifications in an attempt to
give offenses a boost. Unfortunately, the committee can't
legislate better shooting. At week's end, percentages had hit
four-year lows across the board, and scoring had plummeted to
94.0 points a game.
