The Week Feb. 8-14

--Seventh Heaven--Who was happier when Tiger's streak ended,
Phil Mickelson or Byron Nelson?

This is an article from the Feb. 21, 2000 issue Original Layout

--Out of Sight!--With laser-corrected eyes Laura Davies was a
vision throughout her first win since 1998.

--Not Bad for Starters--Lanny Wadkins is the ninth player to win
while making his Senior tour debut.

--M'm, M'm Good--Dear Hootie: The Australian Masters was Michael
Campbell's third W in four weeks.

PGA The final round of the Buick Invitational pulled an
overnight rating of 8.0, making it the highest-rated telecast of
a nonmajor since at least 1991.... Kirk Triplett, who tied for
fifth at Torrey Pines, wound up one World Ranking spot short of
qualifying for next week's Andersen Consulting World Match Play.
Campbell was the last man in, so his probable first-round match
at La Costa will be against top-seed Tiger Wood.... Davis Love
III's reign as the career money leader ended after just two
weeks. Woods, who won $264,000 at Torrey Pines, took over with
$12,821,128, which is $88,481 ahead of Love.

LPGA The Los Angeles Women's Championship was promoted using
Annika Sorenstam's name and image, but she wasn't allowed to
play. Sorenstam says the LPGA botched her oral commitment, a
claim the tour denies. ...Davies, who had LASIK surgery last
Thursday, won for the first time since the '98 PageNet Tour
Championship.... Kelli Kuehne, 22, married Minnesota Vikings
offensive lineman Jay Humphrey, 23, last Saturday in Dallas.

SENIOR Wadkins's victory, which came in a playoff with Jose
Maria Canizares, Walter Hall and Tom Watson, was his first since
the '92 Greater Hartford Open.

ALSO Donnie Hammond won the Lakeland (Fla.) Classic when
Jeff Gallagher three-putted the final green.... In a fit of
pique on Saturday in Lakeland, Bob Lohr severely injured his
left thumb. He teed it up anyway on Sunday--using only his right
arm. Lohr shot a 26-over 98 but collected $1,060.
