Gymnastics Liz, a sophomore at Kentwood High, won the all-around--with a state girls' record 38.575 points--the floor exercise, the vault and the balance beam to lead the Conquerors to a second-place finish at the Class 4A state tournament. Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships to lead the Tigers to the team title for the 23rd straight year. She was also named meet MVP for the third consecutive time. Basketball Syretta, a senior point guard at Chandler High, scored 22 points and had six rebounds in the 46-34 defeat of Phoenix's Mountain Pointe High that gave the Wolves their third Class 5A girls' state crown in four years. Nordic Skiing Anna, a senior at Roseville High and the defending girls' state high school freestyle champion, won the combined classical and freestyle individual pursuit title in a time of 36:26 for six miles while leading the Raiders to first place in the state championships. She won nine individual events this season.
