(Same Old) Love Story
Davis must be wondering, Who does Tiger think he is, Fred Couples?

This is an article from the March 27, 2000 issue Original Layout

Swedehearts
Karrie Webb's winning streak is history, and so is the Sorenstam
sisters' family feud.

Nice Start
Andy North misunderstood. The Senior tour isn't supposed to be
like the U.S. Open.

Big Blue
More Swedish success: Niclas Fasth got his first Euro tour win,
at the Madeira Island Open.

PGA Once again, the Tiger Tour topped the NBA. The final round
at Bay Hill pulled a 5.3 overnight rating while Sunday's
Knicks-Lakers game could muster only a 4.0.... Woods owns
Love--he's 5-0 against him when they've gone head-to-head--much
the way Couples owned Love in the early '90s. "Every time I
played with Freddie, my wife would look at the pairings and say,
'You've got Freddie,'" says Love, "and I knew what she was
thinking." ...Sergio Garcia, 42nd at Bay Hill, has had only one
round in the 60s in three stroke-play events, and his best
finish was a 35th at Pebble Beach.... This week's Players
Championship will be Vijay Singh's 30th consecutive start on the
Florida swing.... John Daly's 87 was his 12th final round of 80
or higher.... Phil Mickelson doesn't understand why the Lords of
Augusta are always tinkering with the course. "I don't know how
guys who can't break 90 think they know what's best for the game
and the course," he says.... Woods asks fans for their names
before signing autographs because personalizing signatures
decreases their market value.

LPGA Charlotta and Annika Sorenstam's one-three finish in
Phoenix was second only to the sister act of Marlene Hagge and
Alice Bauer in the '56 Pittsburgh Open. They came in first and
second, respectively.

Senior North's win, his first since the '85 U.S. Open, is
unofficial because the Legends of Golf is a team event. North
joined forces with Jim Colbert.

ALSO Briny Baird, the son of former Tour pro Butch Baird, won
the Buy.com Monterrey Open, his first victory in 49 starts on
that tour.
