Paulson's rival?

French Fried
That's what you call anyone who plays in the Evian Masters and
the LPGA Championship.

Son of Beach
Tom Kite wins number 2. Cool, but we'll be blown away if he does
that again this week.

Grate Dane
A whole country felt a Little Woosie after Denmark's Steen
Tinning won the Wales Open.

--PGA Here's British bookmaker Victor Chandler's line on the
U.S. Open: Tiger Woods, 11 to 4; David Duval, 12 to 1; Phil
Mickelson, 14 to 1; Colin Montgomerie, 16 to 1; and Masters
champ Vijay Singh, 28 to 1. (Singh is a 2,000-to-1 pick to win
the Grand Slam.)...Paulson, 37, who beat Duval on the fourth
playoff hole of the Buick Classic with a par, was the 1985
national long-drive champ (323 yards, two feet, one inch)....
Jim Furyk's caddie, Mike (Fluff) Cowan, 52, married Jennifer
Young, 24, on June 2 in Las Vegas.

--LPGA Immediately after she won the Wegmans Rochester (N.Y.)
International at Locust Hill Country Club by two shots over
Wendy Doolan, Meg Mallon and 26 other players boarded a
91/2-hour charter flight to Evian-les-Bains, France, and this
week's Evian Masters.... Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and
several others threatened to boycott the soggy final round if
rules officials did not implement the lift, clean and place
rule.... The 14-year-old Wongluekiet twins had mixed results in
their second LPGA start. Naree finished 40th, and Aree missed
the cut.

--SENIOR Kite got his two-stroke victory in the SBC Senior Open
at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Long Grove, Ill., on the final
hole, which he birdied and Bruce Fleisher bogeyed. Kite is a
200-to-1 shot at Pebble.

--ALSO Local favorite Ian Woosnam, leading by one after three
rounds in Newport, Wales, shot a 73 on Sunday to tie for
third.... Mikko Ilonen, 20, defeated Christian Reimbold of
Germany 2 and 1 at Royal Liverpool to become the first Finn to
win the 115-year-old British Amateur.
