Track and Field Janice, a junior at Natchez High and the 2001 junior national champion in the 200, ran the 55 meters in 7.01 and the 400 in 56.72 to win both events at the LSU Classic. Water Skiing Krueger, 26, was named USA Water Ski's male athlete of the year. In the 2001 world championships he earned gold as a member of the victorious U.S. elite team and an individual silver in the jumping competition. Basketball Mazzante, a sophomore shooting guard at Penn State, set a Big Ten women's single-game scoring record with 49 points in an 88-83 win over Minnesota. Mazzante, who shot 16 of 25 against the Golden Gophers, was averaging 25.2 points and 2.0 steals this season.
