Of the six players who have won eight or more major
championships, Tiger Woods is the only one to do so in his
20s.... From 1948 to '53 Ben Hogan made 10 starts in the majors,
winning seven times. Woods has won seven of his last 11.... Key
to Woods's victory? He led the field with 53 greens in
regulation. His 123 putts were the most by a U.S. Open champion
since Ernie Els took 123 in 1994 and Jack Nicklaus needed 124 in
1980.... Phil Mickelson tied Bruce Devlin for the most top 10
finishes in a major without a victory, with 16.... With her
fifth victory of the season, at the Evian Masters in France,
Annika Sorenstam has won $1,354,054 and is on pace to break her
season-earnings mark of $2,105,868, set in 2001.... Gil Morgan's
win at the BellSouth Senior Classic was his 21st as a senior,
seventh on the alltime list.
