International winner Rich Beem made seven birdies and an eagle on
Sunday for 19 Stableford points to break Mark Calcavecchia's 1993
record for best final round (+18) but won by only a point because
Steve Lowery made 14 points on the last five holes.... Phil
Mickelson had perhaps the worst round of his career last Friday,
shooting an unofficial 85 in 40-mph winds. Mickelson, who did not
complete several holes, scored a minus-18.... Hubert Green's
playoff victory over Hale Irwin in the Long Island Classic left
Irwin, the tour's alltime leader in victories (34), at 0-5 in
playoffs.... Making his fourth pro start, Scandinavian Masters
champion Graeme McDowell is the Euro tour's 12th first-time
winner this year.... Mi Hyun Kim won the Wendy's Championship
despite a 73 on Sunday, the second-highest final-round score by a
winner in 2002.
