Nikkie Hessney, VICTOR, N.Y.
Soccer
Hessney, a junior forward at Vermont, scored a hat trick in two
minutes and 22 seconds, breaking an NCAA Division I record, in a
4-0 win over Stetson. She was the first Catamount to get three
goals in one game since 1998.

Jamarcus Shephard, FORT WAYNE, IND.
Football
Shephard, a junior receiver at DePauw, had an 88-yard kickoff
return, threw a 75-yard touchdown pass and had three receptions
for 52 yards in a win over Hanover. He was named Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the
Week.

Magen Loew, BROOKSVILLE, FLA.
Cross-Country
Magen, a sophomore at Central High, stopped to help a competitor
who was having an asthma attack during the Lecanto Invitational.
She put the stricken runner on her back and carried her to an
official, then ran about a mile to retrieve the girl's inhaler.

Marc Young, GREER, S.C.
Baseball
Marc, a senior lefthander at Riverside High, helped win three
championships. He pitched the final game for the 3-A State title,
the semifinal in the AAU (17 and under) national championship and
the final in the Big League World Series.

Jennifer Joines, MILPITAS, CALIF.
Volleyball
Joines, a senior middle blocker at the University of the Pacific,
was named conference player of the week for the seventh time and
is the school's career kills leader, with 1,869. She is the
charter member of the Tigers' 1,500-kill, 500-dig and 500-block
club.

Charles Bedley, TORONTO
Ultramarathon
Bedley, 30, a personal trainer, won the eight-day, 100-mile
ENDURrun World Endurance Championships in Kitchner, Ont. He won
five of the seven race stages and had an overall time of 10
hours, two minutes and 55 seconds.

Anne O'Leary, SHORT HILLS, N.J.
Golf
Anne, a sophomore at Millburn High, won her third consecutive
Essex County Country Club Girls junior tournament. The next day
she won the New Jersey Junior Golf Girls Tournament at the Knob
Hill Golf Club in Manalapan.
