Broncos Suffer Crippling Loss

Denver's run defense, porous last season when it allowed 21
touchdowns, has given up only two in six games this year. But the
Broncos will be hard-pressed to replace smashmouth linebacker Ian
Gold, who tore his right ACL in a 17-14 win over the Steelers on
Sunday and is lost for the season. Donnie Spragan, an undrafted
second-year player, takes over for Gold.... Eagles guard John
Welbourn, born and raised in California, is still registered to
vote there and filed an absentee ballot for Arnold Schwarzenegger
in the governor's race. "I have a lot of admiration for a man who
came to this country as an immigrant and who has attained what he
has," says Welbourn.
