Faces in the Crowd

Tony Washam, NEW CASTLE, DEL.
Basketball
Washam, a junior guard at St. Vincent College, scored 36 points
for the third consecutive game to give the Bearcats a win over
Rio Grande and earn his second American Mideast Conference player
of the week award. He leads the NAIA Division II in scoring.

Kristine Polley, MARIETTA, GA.
Swimming
Kristine, a seventh-grader at Simpson Middle School, won a gold
medal in the 200-yard breaststroke while competing against high
school girls at the Georgia Senior State Championships. She set
an 11-to 12-year-old girls' national age-group record (2:18.69).

Bradley Wheeldon, EUBANK, KY.
Rifle
Wheeldon, a senior at Kentucky, set two school records in a
victory over Texas Christian University. He had a smallbore score
of 1,190, the highest single-match total this season, and with
his air rifle count of 396 set an aggregate scoring record of
1,586.

Nici Workman, CHILLICOTHE, OHIO
Volleyball
Workman, a senior outside hitter at Capital University, became
the conference's alltime leader in kills, with 2,026, and earned
her second Ohio Athletic Conference player of the year award. She
was named first team All-OAC for the third season.

Emmanuel Marc, SPRING VALLEY, N.Y.
Football
Marc, a sophomore running back at Hudson Valley Community
College, set school career records by scoring 30 touchdowns and
rushing for 3,273 yards. He was named the National Junior College
Athletic Association's offensive player of the year.

Renee Young, VISTA, CALIF.
Bodybuilding
Young, 54, a physical therapist, won first place in the grand
masters' bodybuilding division at the Natural Olympia and Natural
Universe championships. At the latter she also won the open
women's short, which includes all women 20 and older and 5'3" and
under.

Peter Van Rooijen, SOUTH PORCUPINE, ONT.
Rowing
Van Rooijen, a junior at Trent University, won the gold medal in
men's heavyweight singles at the Ontario University Association
Rowing Championships. He went undefeated in singles for the
season and was named OUA athlete of the week.
